Our time has come, my fellow sports and entertainment fans. Our time to become famous or infamous; to carry the coveted “celebrity” tag that for so long seemed so out of reach of our mere mortal grasps.
Who among us did not, at some point before we turned 10 years old and were asked what we wanted to be when we grew up, reply in earnest, “I want to be a famous (fill in the blank here: singer, actor, football or baseball player, etc.)?
The problem back then is that becoming a celebrity actually required some measure of talent or accomplishment.
You had to have recorded a song, been in a movie or TV show, or made it to the big leagues before anyone considered you a true icon.
You didn’t have to have a prolonged career, like the actors and musicians of yore: Bogey, Sinatra, The Duke, Kate Hepburn, Bacall, Elton John.
